What is LASEK?
LASEK is a newer method of laser eye surgery that combines the advantages of PRK laser surgery and LASIK.
LASEK is an abbreviation of Laser Ephithelial Keratomileusis, a new surgical method that combines the advantages of excimer laser surgery (PRK) and LASIK. It is an operation to restore the epithelium to its original position.
This surgery can be performed when it is difficult to leave a posterior corneal thickness of 300m or more after polishing the cornea with a laser because the cornea is thin, or when LASIK surgery cannot be performed because of an abnormality in the posterior corneal inclination in ORBscan examination. It is a method to cover the corneal epithelium that was peeled off by technique again in its place.
LASEK surgical procedure
In other words, it removes the problems seen in LASIK surgery by leaving enough corneal thickness.
Unlike LASIK, which improves visual acuity immediately after surgery, LASEK surgery involves wearing therapeutic contact lenses for 3 to 4 days after surgery, in which the corneal epithelium is completely restored.
